Last Run (So Long Pinewood Derby)

I won't go into the details of the championship game this weekend other than to say, the girls played their best. We all agreed that the refs did not. We were one basket short of a win and that is how it turned out. It was Saturday that another milestone was hit in the Sloan household (and...I have to say, I am secretly cheering loudly inside)

Matthew's piano car - Cub master's choice
We have three scouts in our house. For YEARS there has been a pinewood derby to race in early March. Some years, there were two, depending on who were still cub scouts. It really has been fun to watch them race but we found out long ago with scout number one that we really don't make cars that are fast.

So, somewhere along the way, we quickly changed our strategy to making the best "car that isn't a car" that we could. AND...the amazing thing about Sloan cars is that they are almost ALWAYS made in 48 hours or less because that's just how we roll! (We are a bunch of lazy procrastinators is probably a little more accurate!)

The piano was no exception. It was actually a Sloan record. This "car" was made Friday after school about three hours before weigh in! Dawn has been very involved helping Matt these last few years with her artistic flair. He comes up with the idea, David helps Matt cut it out and then Dawn helps Matt work on the look of it!

In honor of our last race, we will share with you some of others that have raced over the years:

Matt's last year came in 2nd for speed in his den! Who knew!
